Speaker Bio:

Marinel de Jesus is a former human rights lawyer turned social entrepreneur, writer, speaker, and advocate. She is the founder of Brown Gal Trekker / Equity Global Treks which is an award-winning social enterprise that promotes trekking to solo travelers worldwide with a focus on women's leadership and workforce equity while making a long-lasting impact on local mountain communities. Most recently, she founded the nonprofit human rights organization, The Porter Voice Collective, which aims to advocate for the labor and indigenous rights of porters or mountain expedition workers in Peru, Nepal and Tanzania.

Through The Porter Voice Collective, Marinel has also spearheaded the recently released documentary film, KM 82: The Porter Voices of Peru's Camino Inca, which aims to shed light on the workforce inequities that the porters face on the Inca Trail and their struggle to create a more equitable mountain trekking industry.
