Lebawit “Lily" Girma is an Ethiopian American freelance travel journalist with more than 10 years’ experience in sustainable tourism reporting and storytelling for consumer and trade outlets. Lily currently contributes full-time to Bloomberg Pursuits, the luxury lifestyle arm of Bloomberg News and Bloomberg Businessweek. Prior to that, she was editor-at-large and global tourism reporter at Skift, where she covered the post-pandemic evolution and future of tourism with a focus on equity and sustainability. 

Lily’s writing and photography have been published over the years in BBC Travel, National Geographic Traveller UK, CNN,, Travel & Leisure, Conde Nast Traveler, and Sierra Magazine, among others. 

She appears regularly in the media and at events as a speaker or moderator on global tourism topics — including CNN with Richard Quest, Bloomberg CityLab, Skift Global Forum, ITB Berlin, WTM Africa, and Women in Travel Summit. 

A former corporate attorney, Lily ditched her Washington DC law office for the road in 2008 to follow her passion for storytelling and social impact through travel. She currently splits her time between Maryland and the Dominican Republic, where she has family on both ends.

Marinel de Jesus is a former human rights lawyer turned social entrepreneur, writer, speaker, and advocate. She is the founder of Brown Gal Trekker / Equity Global Treks which is an award-winning social enterprise that promotes trekking to solo travelers worldwide with a focus on women's leadership and workforce equity while making a long-lasting impact on local mountain communities. Most recently, she founded the nonprofit human rights organization, The Porter Voice Collective, which aims to advocate for the labor and indigenous rights of porters or mountain expedition workers in Peru, Nepal and Tanzania.

Through The Porter Voice Collective, Marinel has also spearheaded the recently released documentary film, KM 82: The Porter Voices of Peru's Camino Inca, which aims to shed light on the workforce inequities that the porters face on the Inca Trail and their struggle to create a more equitable mountain trekking industry.

John Kluge is a social entrepreneur and impact investor dedicated to building more sustainable, just, and inclusive economies. 

He is the Founder and Senior Advisor at the Refugee Investment Network (RIN), the first impact investing and blended finance collaborative dedicated to long-term solutions to forced migration. At the RIN, Mr. Kluge has co-led the development of strategy, programs, and partnerships that are building the field of 'refugee and migration lens' investing, as well as leading RIN's fieldwork in Mexico and Jordan. He is currently working on a book on inclusive economies and refugee lens investing.

In 2022, Mr. Kluge launched a refugee-lens social enterprise, Thistlerock Mead Company (TMC) which combines ancient honey wine fermentation practices with modern regenerative agriculture to protect pollinators and conserve native ecosystems while supporting the livelihoods of women, minority, and refugee beekeepers in the U.S. and in emerging markets around the world.

As a trustee of Babson College, Mr. Kluge helped lead the investment committee's first exploration of ESG and DEI efforts, and currently serves as a Director for the Norwegian Refugee Council USA, a Director for the US-Mexico Foundation, and as an Advisor to the Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream. He is the co-author of the book, Charity & Philanthropy for Dummies (Wylie, 2013), the author of John Kluge: Stories (Columbia University Press, 2008) and has written about the intersection of business and social impact for Forbes and Conscious Company Magazine.  Mr. Kluge holds a B.A. from Columbia University, an MBA from the Babson F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business, and a Certificate of Blended Finance from the University of Zurich.

Weylin is an advocate for sustainable tourism and the environment. Raised in Durango, Colorado, he developed a deep appreciation for his surroundings from a young age, leading to him becoming an Eagle Scout and working as a raft guide. He saw firsthand the positive and negative impacts of increasing tourism on his local environment.

He works for Visit Durango as Sustainability & Policy Manager, using his Masters of Sustainable Tourism from the University of Arizona to assess visitor impact on La Plata County, Colorado. Additionally, he volunteers with The Sustainability Alliance of Southwest Colorado (SASCO) and is co-authoring a book series about U.N Sustainable Development Goals. He is a certified Expert in Continual Improvement for Social Responsibility (CISR).

When not working or volunteering, Weylin lives in Durango with his wife and son, whom he encourages to learn from nature through outdoor activities.

Roni Weiss is the Executive Director of Travel Unity, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on increasing diversity in the world of travel through individual and community empowerment.

Roni was born in Long Island, New York and grew up in Snohomish County, Washington, north of Seattle.

At the age of 10, Roni began attending Edmonds Community College (now Edmonds College), receiving his Associate’s of Arts and Science with Honors at the age of 12. He graduated from Lynnwood High School at the age of 15, then attended the University of Washington, receiving double Bachelor’s of Arts degrees in Drama and English at the age of 18.

Through years of world travels, Roni visited 70+ countries, including every country in Europe, six of seven continents, and taught English in Italy, France, Taiwan, and Chile, both to youth and professionals.

In 2011, Roni founded RW Social, a marketing and consulting company for the travel industry and nonprofits. From 2011 to 2016, Roni worked with Africa Travel Association (now Africa Tourism Association), assisting with and speaking at ATA’s events in NYC, DC, and multiple African countries.

In 2013, RW Social launched the New York Travel Festival, an event focused on innovation and sustainability in the world of travel, which served as the genesis for Travel Unity, where he now serves as Executive Director.

Roni lives in Westchester County, NY with his partner, Lauren, and their four children.

For over 25 years, Catherine Germier-Hamel has built an international career dedicated to sustainable global and local development in a variety of sectors including tourism, hospitality, leisure and environmental utilities -water, sanitation, waste.  After working for 9 years in a subsidiary of Suez group offering consulting and technical assistance for environmental utilities management in developing and emerging countries, particularly in Africa and Latin America, she decided to embrace a career in sustainable tourism.

In 2005, Catherine started a new life in South Korea where she creates the initiative Wine & Women Korea and promotes wine and sustainable wine tourism then serves as F&B Marketing Manager at Novotel Gangnam hotel (2007-2008). From 2008 to 2013), she joins the UNWTO ST-EP (Sustainable Tourism for Eliminating Poverty) Foundation as Director of Global Programs & Sustainable Tourism Consultant before becoming an independent Consultant and Trainer in 2014.

In 2016, she incorporated Millennium Destinations in Seoul, as an impact company providing consulting services and innovative solutions to small businesses and organizations of the travel, hospitality and leisure sectors for their sustainable tourism development and marketing.  In 2019, she co-founded Herost, an impact platform designed as an online travel guide and toolkit promoting sustainable, community-driven travel places, experiences, and practices. Since 2020, she has acted as the CEO of Herost. In 2021, Catherine was appointed CEO of Destination Mekong, a private-sector-led DMO aimed at championing the Greater Mekong Sub-region as  a sustainable tourism destination creating value for all. Catherine holds a Master's degree in Business Administration and Management from Neoma Business School (1992), and a post-degree in Sustainable Tourism Development from University Paris Nanterre (2004).
