Traumatic events like the plague of school shootings continues to confound us as we struggle to make sense of the events and motivations of individuals involved in these heinous crimes. Gun violence and the grief that it causes to families where children have been lost grows out of the soul grief that occurs when people are taught to believe in one thing and then are confronted with the realization that their lives expose them to much different circumstances. It creates a tension that some can’t handle and they explode in violent acts.
