S3 | E28 | From Prison to Purpose: Lisa Ortiz on Survival, Redemption & Second Chances

Listen Later

Lisa Ortiz is the author of She Wore Her Scars Like Wings, a raw and powerful memoir that tells the story of her journey from incarceration to transformation.

Having never met her mother and growing up in an abusive foster care system, Lisa didn’t choose a life of crime — she did what she had to do to survive. After receiving a sentence exceeding 30 years, she ultimately served more than 16 years in Florida State Prison before earning a second chance at life.

Instead of allowing her past to define her, Lisa turned her pain into purpose.

Today she is a published author, entrepreneur, clothing designer, and founder of JustAcker and JustAcker Designs. She is also a passionate advocate for incarcerated individuals, survivors of abuse, and those navigating life after prison.

Lisa continues her advocacy through her YouTube platform @theforgotten6219, where she raises awareness about incarceration and gives a voice to people society often forgets.

Through her writing, businesses, and advocacy work, Lisa demonstrates that healing, redemption, and transformation are possible — no matter where your story begins.
