The introduction to this letter gives the modern reader substantial insight into the early church. "Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God" (Romans 1:1). Apostles can only be CALLED by God the Father and APPOINTED by Jesus himself. Reality rules out anyone calling himself an apostle.
