Dr. Stanley discusses his initial interest in becoming a physician and describes his journey from medical school at Harvard to internal medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital to infectious disease fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis.
Dr. Stanley also describes the various positions he has held throughout his career, starting in academic medicine as an Assistant Professor at WashU to eventually becoming the President of Michigan State University. He shares what he does now as a university president and how his background in medicine helps him in this role. Dr. Stanley ends with sharing his favorite part of his job and his biggest piece of advice to students interested in pursuing medicine.
