Hello hello! Welcome to a special episode on Sababisha! My name is Chelsea and today I’m joined by Zarita, George (you might know him), and Charles as we share our journeys in Canada. We went back to those first moments of arrival, when everything felt new and overwhelming. We laughed about the culture shocks that caught us off guard, reflected on the realities of navigating race in a new country, and shared the joy and growth that has come with building a life in Toronto.
These stories are deeply personal, but they’re also familiar to so many Afrikans who have made the same journey. They remind us of the challenges we’ve faced, the resilience we’ve built, and the small but beautiful victories that come with creating a home away from home.
This episode is more than just a conversation. It’s a glimpse into what we’re building with Story Story: An Afrikan Storytelling Experience in Toronto, curated by me (Chelsea) and Zarita. Story Story is a space where Afrikans can come together, share openly, and feel the power of being heard.
Whether your an Afrikan that's been in Canada for a short time or many many years, Story Story is for you. Come ready to listen, laugh, and maybe even share your own story.
Join us for Story Story on September 20th at the WhiteBoardCollective on 1212 Kingston Rd from 2PM-6PM. This event is part of Culture Days, a celebration of arts and culture in Canada between September to October.
