Sabbath School Study Hour

"What is it about human beings that makes them so afraid of the idea of grace, of salvation by faith alone? Why is it that many people would rather try to work their way to salvation, if that were possible?"

"The law was given to point sinners to their need of Christ. As a custodian, it provides instruction about God and protection from evil."

"What does it mean to you to know that you can trust God’s promises? Or perhaps the question should be, how can you learn to trust God’s promises in the first place?"

"From start to finish in the Christian life, the basis of our salvation is faith in Christ alone. The only reason we are not condemned for our mistakes is that Jesus paid the price for our sins by dying in our place."

"We are not justified on the basis of our faith but on the basis of Christ’s faithfulness for us, which we claim for ourselves through faith."

"What issues are more important than unity itself? How do we learn to distinguish between what must remain and what we can, if necessary, let go of? How can we learn to accept and even enjoy the diversity of cultures and traditions among us, while at the same time maintaining unity?"

"Why does Paul say it is impossible to be a follower of Christ while trying to please people?"

"While we need zeal and fervor for what we believe, how do we learn to temper our zeal with the realization that, at times, we just might be wrong?"

This final week’s lesson will look in more detail at five of the themes Peter wrote about: the suffering of Jesus that led to our salvation; our practical response to the knowledge that God will judge our actions at the last judgment; the hope we have in the soon return of Jesus; order in society and in the church; and the role Scripture has in providing guidance in our lives.

"Why must the Word of God, and not culture or our own judgment or reason, be the ultimate authority in our lives?"
