Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy says he will easily win a boxing match against Orlando Pirates coach Rulani Mokwena. He said this after the two teams played to a 3-3 draw at Orlando stadium on Saturday. There was an incident at the end of the match when the two coaches had a small tiff.

Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune continues to struggle with injuries and this time Amakhosi head coach Ernst Middendorp is shouldering the blame for Khune’s latest injury. Having been out of competitive football for more than eight months, Khune returned to action last Tuesday during the 2-0 win over AmaZulu FC. He lasted only 28 minutes in the 1-0 win over Baroka FC on Saturday night and had to be replaced by Daniel Akpeyi. Middendorp was not clear on the type of injury sustained by Khune but he has indicated that he could be out for few weeks and this is why he is taking the blame for it.

Department of Sport, Arts and Culture deputy Minister Nocawe Mafu could not confirm where the 2020 National Indigenous Games (IG) will be held. The 2019 edition was successful without incident in Seshego outside Polokwane last week. It was for the fifth time in a row the township hosted the event. Mafu says other provinces are now lobbying on hosting the week-long festival which comes with an economic spinoff.

The curtain closed on the first ever South African Spring Open tournament on Sunday evening and South African wheelchair tennis ace Lucas Sithole clinched the Quads singles Final, defeating compatriot Donald Ramphadi 6-4 6-3. This was the inaugural edition of the competition that spanned over eight days at the Ellis Park Tennis Courts where leading domestic players took to the courts in gruelling battles with their continental and international counterparts. Ubuntu Cape Town City beat Amazulu FC 1-0 to win the Engen Champ of Champs Under-18 tournament at Marks Park in Johannesburg on Sunday afternoon. Antonio Van Wyk scored the only goal through a penalty in the first half. The Cape Town team won all their matches and their coach Casey Prince says it was a tough match.

Polokwane City suffered a 2-0 loss to Highlands Park in a Sunday afternoon Absa Premiership fixture played at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa. It is a second straight defeat against Highlands Park for Rise and Shine, after The Lions of the North knocked them out of the MTN8 semi-final a fortnight ago. Polokwane’s coach, Zlato Krmpotić, felt his side lost to a good team and added that the windy conditions on the day led to his team changing their usual style of play however it was a learning curve for the Serbian coach and his charges.

Highlands Park beat Polokwane City 2-0 in a Sunday afternoon Absa Premiership fixture played at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa, with goals coming from Mothobi Mvala and Peter Shalulile. The Lions of the North came into the game having booted Rise and Shine out of the MTN8 Cup semi-final barely two weeks ago however Coach Owen da Gama admits that it was not easy beating a team that is currently lying second on the PSL log standings.
