Department of Sport, Arts and Culture deputy Minister Nocawe Mafu could not confirm where the 2020 National Indigenous Games (IG) will be held. The 2019 edition was successful without incident in Seshego outside Polokwane last week. It was for the fifth time in a row the township hosted the event. Mafu says other provinces are now lobbying on hosting the week-long festival which comes with an economic spinoff.

Ubuntu Cape Town City beat Amazulu FC 1-0 to win the Engen Champ of Champs Under-18 tournament at Marks Park in Johannesburg on Sunday afternoon. Antonio Van Wyk scored the only goal through a penalty in the first half. The Cape Town team won all their matches and their coach Casey Prince says it was a tough match.

Polokwane City suffered a 2-0 loss to Highlands Park in a Sunday afternoon Absa Premiership fixture played at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa. It is a second straight defeat against Highlands Park for Rise and Shine, after The Lions of the North knocked them out of the MTN8 semi-final a fortnight ago. Polokwane’s coach, Zlato Krmpotić, felt his side lost to a good team and added that the windy conditions on the day led to his team changing their usual style of play however it was a learning curve for the Serbian coach and his charges.
