Pitso Mosimane reacts to the omission of Themba Zwane, Sibusiso Vilakazi and Hlompho Kekana from the national team that will play a friendly match against Zambia on the 7th of September. The trio have been rested after playing football non-stop in the last few years. Mosimane is happy they are not in the team.

Highlands Park coach Owen Da Gama has condemned the booing of his defender Marks Munyai in Thohoyandou this past weekend. Munyai was playing in his hometown for the first time since his move in June and he was jeered by some Leopards fans. The coach knows booing is part of the game however believes it is not right especially when directed at a player that has helped a club.

Mamelodi Sundowns will meet Cote d'Or from Seychelles in the CAF Champions League first round clash. This after the Brazilians beat Otoho d’Oyo from Congo-Brazzaville 5-2 on aggregate in the preliminary round. Sundowns lost 2-1 in the first leg encounter away from home and won 4-0 convincingly on Saturday in Atteridgeville. Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says he knew they were going to win by a bigger margin.

Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana has extended his condolences to the family and friends of the late SABC Sport analyst and anchor David Kekana. The late Kekana died in hospital on Sunday succumbing to a prolonged battle with diabetes after being admitted a few weeks ago. Midfielder Kekana says he is saddened by the passing of a good man saying it is a blow to the sports fraternity.

Husband-and-wife pair of Muhajr Haredin and Sofiya Shemsu from Ethiopia were the big winners at the eighth edition of the Mandela Day Marathon after both scorched to record times in Howick on Sunday. Haredin clocked a time of two hours, 26 minutes and 18 seconds (2:26.18) to beat the previous best mark of 2:27.12 that was set by South African Thobani Chagwe when he won the title back in 2014. The 26-year-old finished ahead of countryman Wondwosen Ketema Mamo (2.27.44) by 86 seconds, with Lesotho's Teboho Noosi (2.27.47) third.

Baroka FC and Bloemfontein Celtic played to a goalless draw in the Absa premiership at the old Peter Mokaba stadium on Sunday afternoon. Baroka coach Wedson Nyirenda was disappointed that his players did not apply themselves and also bemoaning the officiating towards his side.

Pirates were held to a one-all draw at Orlando stadium on Saturday night, they had lost the first leg 1-0 in Lusaka two weeks ago. Caretaker coach Rulani Mokwena says he can’t fault his players.

Stellenbosch and Maritzburg United could not be separated at Athlone Stadium on Sunday afternoon, as the two Absa Premiership clubs played to a goalless draw. Both teams had chances on a rainy afternoon, but were unable to break the deadlock, and both teams had to settle for a point a-piece. Stellenbosch Coach Steve Barker feels that both teams lacked the quality in the final third, but he is pleased with the commitment from his players.

The triumph secured a home semifinal at the Emirates Airline Park next weekend with the same Griquas side in a repeat of this weekend’s clash for a final berth.
