Orlando Pirates are currently in camp in Cape Town for a series of pre-season friendlies, after spending the past two weeks training in Johannesburg and Rustenburg. Former Orlando Pirates teammates Helman Mkhalele and Gavin Lane have paid tribute to their former teammate Marc Batchelor. Batchelor died after he was shot several times in his car outside his home in Johannesburg. Batchelor was one of the few players who played for Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Moroka Swallows.

KwaZulu-Natal football fans are set for a bumper two weeks after another pre-season tournament was launched in Pietermaritzburg on Monday. The Msunduzi Cup was officially unveiled in the City of Choice, a competition that will be held at the Harry Gwala Stadium this Saturday. It will see four Absa Premiership clubs line-up for the first time on the same day and at the same venue in the province. Maritzburg United and AmaZulu will play in the first match at 10am, followed by Lamontville Golden Arrows against Bidvest Wits, with the final taking place at 5pm. Lebogang Mokoena, the chief organiser and director of Mokoena Group, explains the thinking behind the competition.
