Former South African flyweight champion Ncedo Cecane is keeping Mzimasi Mnguni’s boxing legacy alive. Cecane, who was once trained by Mnguni, is the chief trainer at ailing his former mentor’s Eyethu Boxing Gym in Mdantsane and has since produced four champions. Nkosinathi “Mabhere” Joyi holds the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa junior-flyweight title, Phila Mpontshane has the South African junior-lightweight belt, Xolani Mcotheli is the current SA junior-welterweight champion while Xolani Magusha rules in the SA minimumweight division. In the past Eyethu produced world champions in Welcome Ncita (IBF junior-featherweight), Vuyani Bungu (IBF junior-featherweight and IBO featherweight) , Mbulelo Botile (IBF bantamweight, IBF featherweight and IBO featherweight) and Zolani Petelo (IBF minimumweight).
