This final part of Gideon’s story is just as action packed as the beginning and takes some interesting twists and turns.

We see the other Israelites not being very helpful to Gideon and his army of 300, and how he reacts to that.

Then Gideon creates an idol…the very thing he bravely destroyed when we met him in the first podcast.

We also see what happens when the people start forgetting what God has done for them.

But we could ask ourselves some questions.

- How do you react when people don’t help you?

- Have you ever accidentally turned something in your life into an idol?

- Do you sometimes forget what God has done for you?

And finally, two of our many ‘take home’ points are:

+ Thankfulness and remembrance are key elements in our faith and belief in God.

+ Even if you’re scared, you can still be used by God if you are willing to step forward.

Gideon’s army is narrowed down to just 300 men who are armed with a trumpet, pitcher and torch - this doesn’t sound like the most effective way to win a battle against 135 000 Midianites and Amalekites! 

Faith is definitely shaky under these conditions.

Have you ever been faced with something you are battling or are challenged with and felt unequipped to handle it? 
Maybe you look down and think, ‘what do I have in my hands to use?’ 

Take heart, because God can use anything you have to offer, to help you to overcome.

Gideon is now getting ready to head off to battle but is still doubtful about the outcome even though God has already told him that they would be victorious.

Gideon asks God for more proof that He would be with him and then later his army of 32 000 becomes 10 000. 

This could be time when ‘it’s ok to use the F word’. Faith.

Do you ever ask God for proof or evidence and what happens if it feels like you don’t get an answer? 

Do you ever feel like the odds are against you?

A mighty man of valor!
This is what the angel calls Gideon...as he is hiding in a wine press.
Gideon then goes on to use all the doubting words like 'but', 'if', 'why', 'where', 'how' etc.
This doesn't sound like a very mighty man...
But maybe God speaks to us in the same way today.
Is God calling you something that you might not see in yourself?
