It was a game the Kings led the Mavs for much of the game, until they didn't.

They started out bombing from 3, and forcing tons of turnovers from the Mavs which lead to plenty of fastbreak points for the Kings.

But when the Kings played in the half court it was a whole other story, and it ultimately led to the loss.

Kings have things to work on that's for sure, but they really need to figure out their half court offense so they don't go on extended droughts to let teams get right back in the game.

It was a tale of 3 and half quarters. For most of the game, the Kings looked hapless on both ends of the floor, they can't stop the Bucks offense and most definitely not Giannis Antetokounmpo. And then on offense, it's stagnant without any spacing to work with and not enough 3s being generated or hit.

And for the half of basketball in which they did those things, they looked amazing and were able to cut a once 26 point deficit to 3 in the 4th quarter.

Until the Kings can find a synergy between their offensive and defensive identities, it's gonna look more like the 3.5 quarters of dreadful basketball that we saw tonight.

The Kings start 2026 on a bit of a bummer, losing their first 2 games back to back against the Celtics and Suns.

Both games did see the return of a fast paced attack of the Kings with plenty of ball movement and activity on defense. But both games then saw them kind of gas out eventually. In the Celtics game it was the 4th quarter and in the Suns game it was the 3rd quarter.

While the results aren't there in these 1st 2 games, the process does seem to be there and let's see if the Kings can build upon these 2 games for the better.

The Kings did not have a fruitful trip to LA. Losing to the Lakers in demoralizing fashion and then to Clippers tonight in an even more non-competitive loss.

The Kings tried to up their physicality but just had no juice on the offensive end. And when you can't score consistently, it's harder to set your defense properly and the Clippers scored in transition in bunches to blow the game open where the Kings never threatened after the 1st quarter.

Well that's a poetic way to end 2025 for the Kings, let's hope 2026 has better things waiting or them.

The Kings come out of Christmas by getting a terrific win over the Mavericks in the G1C. They forced a ton of turnovers from the Mavs and shot the lights out from 3 to spoil Cooper Flagg's debut in Sacramento.

It wasn't as rosy the next night when they traveled down to LA to face the Lakers as the Kings got the turnover bug and mightily struggled to defend the Lakers on route to a decisive loss against the purple and gold.

The Kings will stay in LA to face the Clippers next before the year turns 2026.

The Kings lately have been hanging with their opponents, not getting blown out and always making things interesting in crunch time.

This game was no different even though for much of the game the Kings trailed by double digits as they were bullied physically by the Pistons. But in the 4th quarter the Kings battled and were able to cut the lead to 7 before falling.

This new look Kings team has looked better and tougher and it's a refreshing sight to what has been a pretty miserable season.

The Kings rematched the Blazers Saturday night and while the game was close, there was no spectacular or controversial ending. The Kings simply got outplayed, so on to the Rockets game the next night.

And what a game it was, the Kings battled hard against the Rockets all night and sent the game to OT with a spectacular 3 pointer from Westbrook where they would win with a go-ahead 3 from Schroder in the final seconds.

In both of these games, the Kings have leaned into a set lineup where they embrace the young players along with an interesting combo of veterans to stir the drink.

It will be interesting to see how these things develop together as the season goes on.

The Kings screwed the Kings, referee Marc Davis says.

After pulling a miraculous comeback after being down 15 with under 2 and a half minutes to go to tie the game and go into overtime, the Kings would take a 1 point lead in OT with 4.4 seconds to go after trailing by 6 with 33.2 seconds to go.

Deni Avdija would take the ball down the court with 4.4 seconds to go and miss a runner from just inside the 3 point line.

The game was over, everyone thought, but no so fast, as referee Marc Davis calls a foul that occurred just prior to the clock expiring on Russell Westbrook to give Deni 2 freethrows to win the game by 1.

It was one of the wildest games this year and perhaps in history and Owen goes through it.
