On the quiet morning of October 27, 2006, Sacramento County Deputy Jeff Mitchell made what seemed like a routine traffic stop on a rural road. At 3:30 a.m., he came across a white Chevrolet van. Moments later, Deputy Mitchell stopped responding to dispatch.

When fellow officers arrived at the scene, they found him mortally wounded and shot after what appeared to be a violent struggle. Nearly two decades later, his killer remains unidentified.

In this episode, we revisit that tragic morning with Detective Turnbull and Jeff’s sister, Kim Gervasoni, who share the heartbreaking details, ongoing investigation, and a plea for answers.
