Most advisors see their business as a way to generate income:
Book trips. Earn commission. Pay bills. Repeat.
But if that's all your business is doing, you're thinking too small.
Take a step back and ask yourself:
What is this business actually building for me long-term?
Your agency should be more than a source of income. It should be an asset.
One of the biggest mindset shifts I made as an entrepreneur was realizing my business is just one piece of my overall financial picture. Alongside investments, retirement accounts, and real estate, my business should be helping me build wealth—not just generate revenue.
Instead of asking, "How much did I sell?" start asking:
- How much profit am I keeping?
- What opportunities does that profit create?
- Could this business operate without me?
- What would it be worth if someone wanted to buy it tomorrow?
And before you say, "I never want to sell my agency," that's not the point.
Businesses that are sellable tend to have systems, processes, recurring revenue, and less owner dependency. Building a sellable business forces you to become an owner instead of an operator.
The goal isn't to work forever.
The goal is freedom, flexibility, and choice.
So here's this week's Sacred Cow question:
Are you building a travel agency, or are you building an asset?
Because those are two very different businesses.
