Are You Living It… or Just Going Through the Motions?Finding the Sacred Through Experience
What if spirituality isn’t something we’re meant to simply believe, understand or practice—but something we’re meant to experience?
In episode 20 this week, we’re recording lakeside from beautiful Grand Lake, Colorado, after a week that became an unexpected immersion into the sacred.
For Troy, it was a week of firsts.
A sweat lodge. Sacred Sanskrit chanting and kirtan. A tea ceremony. Soaking in mountain water. Walking a labyrinth. Picking up an old telephone in the forest and speaking from the heart to someone who had passed. Seeing his first moose and an entire herd of elk. And finally, standing high in the Rocky Mountains realizing just how much of life he had missed while he was busy working through it.
But underneath all of those experiences, something much bigger was happening.
As a former Baptist pastor, Troy spent years believing there was a particular way spirituality was supposed to look. This journey is teaching him something different: the sacred can meet us in places we never expected—if we're willing to experience something before judging or defining it.
He shares a powerful realization:
For years, he knew how to go through the motions.
Church. Prayer. Tradition. Doing the “right” things.
But going through the motions isn't necessarily the same as feeling connected.
Meanwhile, returning to Colorado brought Zan face-to-face with her own transformation. Coming back to old friends and familiar places as a different version of herself raised another question:
What if changing doesn't mean we've lost ourselves? What if we're actually coming closer to who we really are?
In this episode we explore ceremony, worship, nature, balance, intuition, synchronicity, inner healing, conscious relationships, spiritual curiosity—and what happens when we become willing to encounter God, Source and the sacred outside the boxes we've created for them.
Maybe the invitation isn't to find another belief system.
Maybe it's simply to become curious enough to live the experience.
So this week we're leaving you with a question:
Where in your life is the sacred inviting you into an experience you've been trying to understand from the outside?
Maybe it's time to get curious.
