Sad Boys For Real! Mamicana comes through & discusses what it means to be an Afro-Latina DJ in Chicago. Being a cultural leader isn't easy when you're discovering new things about yourself daily. From your likes and dislikes, to what you truly want out of, "this thing called life."
Lloyd said, "Had to find a new approach to an old dream / And it's not to take / a shot at my old team / I just want you to see / This is me so please accept me for who I am / And please accept me for what I do," and sometimes we have to switch gears; even when it hurts the people we love most. At the end of the day, you have to love yourself first.
Sad Boys For Real! GloUp Jake blessed the studio with gems that’ll last a lifetime. Jake discusses Lyrical Lemonade & how his unique relationship with Cole Bennet has helped shape him into who he is today. However, there’s more to Jake then just his ties to the company.
Jake shares his story & how the traumas he faced as a kid pushed him to create something no one saw coming. From being told who he would be all his life, overcoming addiction, and battling with depression and anxiety. Jake is a symbol of hope for everyone who deals with these issues, even if it’s below the surface.
Drake said, “Therapy sessions, I'm in the waiting room, readin' Forbes / Abandonment issues I'm gettin' treated for / How much water can I fit under the bridge before it overflows?” We all deal with baggage and trauma that’ll last a lifetime. However, what makes us who we are is how we overcome it. This episode is to let everyone know, “it’ll be okay?”
Sad Boys For Real! Kique slides through for his second appearance. We discuss the struggle of holding onto old parts of ourselves while constantly growing. Often, we find ourselves clinging to the past, afraid of change & what the future holds for us. That's something I have been struggling with lately.
Drake said, "Promise to break everybody off before I break down / Everyone just wait now / So much on my plate now / People I believed in they don't even show their face now / What they got to say now? / Nothing they can say now /Nothing really changed, but still they look at me a way now" There's a pressure to succeed & people view you for what you do, not for who you are. However, in our minds nothing ever changed, yet still "nothing was the same."
Sad Boys For Real! Chicago singer, Mela-D, comes to the set & discusses her new EP "Love Bomb" and the inspiration behind it. Often, singers tell their stories through their songs, and Mela-D reveals her truths about love. Sometimes we trust the wrong people and get hurt, and sometimes we're the people that shouldn't have been trusted.
Rihanna said in “Take Care,” I know you’ve been hurt, by someone else/ I can tell by the way, you carry yourself" we're all on a journey of healing from past traumas, and along the way we'll experience new relationships that change the way we act & think forever. Thus, leaving us with the question, "how has our perception of love changed over time?"
Sad Boys For Real! Prominent Chicago Videographer, Film, comes to the studio & discusses his growth within the night life industry. Everybody has their own journey, and Film's involved him taking an extended leave & coming back with a new passion .
More importantly, this video highlights the end of chapters within one's life. Whether this includes accomplishing every goal you set, or losing an individual who meant the world to you. With both, you're left with this feeling of "what's next in my life?" "how do I move forward? or "how do I go on?" Sometimes the answer is unclear, but we persevere to find new meaning with every loss.
This one is for everybody who has felt lost, and needed to redefine their life's direction.
Sad Boys For Real! Lyrical Lemonade journalist, Lee McIntosh slides through & discusses his journey in the industry. Working in entertainment, there's millions of people who do the exact same thing as you. You have to find a way to stand out and be unique; especially when working for someone like Cole Bennet.
Lee discusses meeting Cole at ComplexCon, starting his first blog independently, and his growth since interviewing artists such as: Giveon, Lil Yachty, and Trippie Redd. This industry makes people question, "why do I do this?", "am I good enough?" Questions that everybody faces at some point in their life; however, what matters is what you do to overcome these mental battles. Find out out how Lee overcame his doubts, and like Drake said, "Know yourself, know your worth."
Sad Boys For Real! Clothing designer, AK of ENTLD, comes through & discusses the importance of mental health in the industry. You can have everything in the world: money, success, business, etc. But what does any of this mean when your loved ones & peace is gone?
Sometimes you have to take a step back from the spotlight to focus on yourself, and that's a hard realization to come to. AK lets the world know that it's okay to do so. His brand is who he is authentically. So remember to "Love Yourself," "Face Your Fear," and "Create Your Own Rules. You are ENTLD too.
Sad Boys For Real! Chicago artist, JBro Bugatti, comes by the studio & discusses his next steps as a man, an artist, and romantically. Often, we get caught up in our own lives that we forget about those around us. We forget about the struggles others are going through, and focus solely on ourselves.
J Cole once said, "Shit don't always connect as soon as you press play/ At times you gotta step away, do some livin' / Let time provide a new prescription, givin' truer vision." Life doesn't give you all the answers at once, but living it & enjoying it will give you a new perception.
Sad Boys For Real! The Bop King of Chicago, DLOW, slides through & discusses his early success, and how it impacted his mental health & personal relationships. From losing focus of those around him, and being surrounded by fake love within the industry. DLOW talks about his journey in finding self-love & himself through lifelong trauma.
Big Sean said, "if you love yourself then you'll never be alone," that's one of the truest statements you'll ever hear. DLOW is a dance legend that consistently gives back to his community, and this is us giving him his flowers.
From "DLOW Shuffle", "Do It Like Me," World of Dance, and so much more! Watch as DLOW gives you insight to who he truly is.
Sad Boys For Real! Chicago DJ, Preme, visits the set & discusses why he believes we meet the people we do in our lives. People come and go; however, they always leave us with a lesson to have been learned. Whether the lesson is to protect your energy, be open to love, or new skills. Each person in our life is valuable in some way.
Eminem said, "You saved my life, now maybe it's my turn to save yours But I can never repay you, what you did for me is way more," sometimes people come into your life and help you first. No matter how successful they may be, you have the opportunity to repay them in many ways.
Preme has opened for Pusha T, Lil Keed, Lil Tecca, and even DJ'd at Lyrical Lemonade's Summer Smash! After meeting all these amazing artists the contemplation of why we meet people has weighed heavy on him! Find out his answers on Sad Boy Radio.
