Shadows and obscurity and darkness and complete decadence are all that are left. As opposed to confronting the void of Lovecraftian space, we confront the void of human futility in this instance, aware that we only have the final, unquestionable tragic path of the characters to witness with every tick of the doomsday clock ticking away in the minds of those who watch on Sadisflix horreur. It is already obvious to the wise that there will be no final redemption, resolution, or comfort. Let evil flicker before the torches and bonfires, let the curtains close. The film's accelerated reveal of the tragedy heightens the sense of failure that the ensemble is destined for and, as a result, transfers to viewers.
