This episode we are joined with Nirosha Balakumar, a spoken word artist that uses her work to tell stories of her identity and heritage. Nirosha talks about her journey to being accepted into both Oxford and Cambridge University, her latest Ted Talk and her work with the Brown Girl Diaries as their Community Outreach Coordinator. We also dive into being mixed ethnically as well as Indo-Caribbean. 

The Caribbean is typically presented as wholly Afro-Caribbean but what most are unaware of the communities that have existed there for centuries. This week we dive into the experience of Sino-Caribbean, Christopher Lee. The Sino-Caribbean Community are those whom are from the Caribbean with Chinese ancestry. We break down Sino-Caribbean history, culture and how this is similar and differs from other communities.

Ismail Laraqui started his journey into the fashion industry in London whilst attending the prestigious London College of Fashion. Training in the design of leather goods, he's always found a way to keep his portfolio innovative and fresh. Since graduating in 2019 he has moved to Milan to attend Istituto Marangoni to retrain his skills and start a masters in womenswear. In this episode we discuss studying in a Covid hotspot during unusual times, how the pandemic has effected the mental health of creatives and what the future of applying for jobs look like.

More than 70,000 people worldwide are living with Cystic Fibrosis. Around three years ago I educated myself on what living with Cystic Fibrosis entails through the late Claire Wineland. Claire sadly passed away in 2018, since I have had the privilege of sitting down with the talented Grace Charles Cox to discuss her life with CF. Together you are able to experience a variety of Caribbean-ness, showing the complexities of the ethnic group and that no experience is alike.
