Human Factors (HF) is a scientific discipline that examines how human characteristics affect the utility of tools, technologies, and work environments. Patient simulation has been used extensively in health care training, but simulation also plays a large role in HF research and design -- perhaps it's time for clinicians working with simulation to have more interaction with HF designers to create better, clinician-friendly technologies. We interview Dr. Emily Hayden, lead author of "Human Factors and Simulation in Emergency Medicine", a product of the 2017 AEM Consensus Conference, "Catalyzing System Change Through Health Care Simulation: Systems, Competency, Outcomes."
