She developed one of the first hospital medical records systems and established training schools for nurses across the United States and Japan. Richards also served as the first president of the American Society of Superintendents of Training Schools for Nurses, now known as the National League for Nursing. Her legacy continues to influence nursing education and the promotion of excellence in the profession.
