Dr. Carnegie was a pioneering nurse educator and civil rights activist who broke down racial barriers in the nursing profession. She established the first baccalaureate nursing program at Hampton University and was the first black nurse to serve on the board of a state nursing association in the U.S. Her influential work included authoring "The Path We Tread: Blacks in Nursing" and serving on the editorial staff of several nursing journals. Dr. Carnegie's legacy continues to inspire efforts towards diversity, inclusivity, and equity in nursing education and practice.
