In this episode of Sage Studio, Tiffiny Webster welcomes Stephanie Gomarko and Taylore Coulombe, from the Personalized Learning Academy to discuss the Back to School Socials. Stephanie and Taylore are Regional Mentors at Sage Oak. Stephanie primarily works with middle school students while Taylore focuses on kindergarten through fifth grade.

The Back to School Socials are events where families can meet teachers, interact with other students, and learn about the services offered by approved community providers. There will also be a curriculum swap where families can acquire additional resources for their curriculum. The socials are casual and interactive, allowing parents and children to participate in crafts, activities, and field games. The events will take place at parks, with three socials scheduled on September 8th and three on September 15th, divided across various locations in Southern California.

Parents are encouraged to attend and make the most of this opportunity to network with other families, meet teachers in a more informal setting, and explore available services. The socials aim to foster connections and relationships that can be invaluable in the independent study environment. It's a chance for students to meet new friends and for parents to connect with both new and experienced families who can provide support and resources.

The Back to School Socials also offer an exciting opportunity for students to have their school pictures taken, as this has been a challenge in recent years. Parents are advised to sign up for school pictures in advance by visiting the provided link and uploading their child's photo for accurate matching. Overall, the Back to School Socials are a fantastic way to kickstart the school year, build connections, and create a positive learning environment for students.

In this episode of The Sage Studio Podcast, we have a special update from Kiley Duncan about the exciting developments at Sage Oak and the Oakschool program. Kiley shares her enthusiasm for the incredible opportunity offered to the Sage Oak families.

One of the highlights is the integration of curriculum into Oakschool's core classes, which include math, reading, writing, history, and science. The school has purchased curriculum using a grant and will provide it for free to students enrolling in a full year of Oakschool classes. This curriculum includes Beast Academy Math, Singapore Math, History Alive, Generation Genius, and a novel writing program.

Oakschool also offers a wide range of enrichment classes in subjects like Spanish, sign language, cooking, coding, adventure novel writing, and ukulele. The school focuses on foreign language, technology, and the arts to bring students together to collaborate, socialize, and be enriched.

The website also provides filtering options by subject area, grade level, and quarter, making it easier for families to plan their schedules.

Kiley, who has been with Sage Oak for 8 years and is now the Assistant Principal for the Personalized Learning Academy, is excited about the growth and success of the program. She actively seeks feedback from parents and teachers to improve the program and will continue to seek parent feedback and suggestions for the upcoming school year.

Furthermore, Oakschool is expanding its program to more locations in quarter one and quarter four, with a focus on areas with high student populations. They have also hired new art teachers to offer free live art instruction in regional locations. Additionally, paid live instruction is available for TK through eighth-grade students, with a variety of classes to choose from.

Ventura Makos is owned and operated by Christian Brock and is renowned for its exhilarating surf classes and camps, conducted all year round at numerous beach spots in Ventura County. In this episode, Sage Oak Community Provider, Ryan Beard, of SportsSaints.org, shares the value of in-person PE, sports, and S.T.E.A.M. instruction for kids.  Sports Saints S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) lessons teach students concepts such as the effect of strength conditioning and hydration on the body, the angles of sports maneuvers, and how the teamwork required for engineering buildings and bridges correlates to the teamwork required on the field.

Sports Saints offers single-sport and multi-sport options including soccer, baseball, tennis, and golf for TK-9th grade students at various times and locations.  Students can take weekly classes or participate in multi-day camps throughout the year.

In this episode, Sage Oak CTE Art Teacher, Tara Edwards, shares how the CTE pathways allow students to explore art classes, develop their portfolios, and prepare for creative college degrees and careers.

What is a CTE Art Pathway?
A Career Technical Education pathway is a sequence of elective courses with a focus on arts, media, and entertainment. 

Do students have to complete the entire CTE Art pathway?
No.  Students can elect to enroll in a few  a la carte CTE courses or complete the entire sequence

What are the benefits of completing a CTE Art pathway?
Student who complete the CTE Art pathway will gain exposure to to various art techniques, determine a focus in a particular medium, have access to guest speakers in the field, earn certificates, develop portfolios, prepare for college degrees, and train for creative careers.
