Maundy Thursday, almost 2000 years ago, was the darkest most terrible night in all of human history, because it was on that night that Jesus was betrayed and suffered before his passion. But it was also a night when Jesus loved his disciples to the end, prayed for them, encouraged them, gave them promises, of a future hope, and instituted the Lords supper for their benefit. Among all those things, he also gave them, and us, the new commandment to love one another
