The poet/lover is sorrowful (because he does not have the attention of the beloved). His eyes are tearful. When the beloved smiles, he deceives himself that she might be thinking of remembering his tearful eye.

The beloved frequents a certain path and the poet/lover goes their looking for her footprints, so he may offer his obeisance. It has been a while since he has seen any. Thus, he says that he once again needs her footprints and remembers his past obeisance in her pathway.

The beloved frequents a certain path. All that the poet/lover ever gets to see is the dust in her trail. He collects it and remembers its association with her but also remembers his own passionate madness. ‘sar-e-shoriida’ is remembered because that is where all the dust is sprinkled to give him that ‘shoriida’ look.

The beloved’s sidelong, coquettish glances are like arrows. The attack is fierce and when the poet/lover saves his heart (emotions), he remembers that his liver (fortitude) will fall victim. Thus he will become prey one way or the other.

The beloved cannot look at the mirror any more, because when she sees herself, she is reminded of the second subject – the poet/lover. She cannot bear that thought because she is so irritated or because she is forlorn, missing him?

Pain (which is so cruel that it destroys wherever it makes its home) is looking for the poet/lover’s heart. It again remembers its old home. Thus the poet/lover claims to be the only true lover. Pain can feel at home only in his heart.
