We live in a world that is broken. How should we respond to the evil and brokenness that is all around us? Psalms 9 gives us some great help on this topic.

Have you ever stopped to marvel at how awesome God is? It is easy for us in our human pride to puff ourselves up and marvel at how great we are. In today’s Psalms, however, David puts us in our place as humanity. He reminds us of how great God is and how any position we have in the world has been given to us by God.

Do you ever feel like you are not hearing from God? Like He has grown silent? Join the club. Most people have had that experience, even David, a man after God’s own heart. Today, we explore what to do when that happens. Silence in general makes many people uncomfortable. But sometimes silence is God’s prescription for our distracted souls.

Psalms 3 is a deep visceral cry of pain. David writes the Psalms in the midst of one of the greatest crises of his life. In David’s brokenness and pain over Absalom’s rebellion it is clear that there are a few things David knows about God that will sustain him through this trial… things that will also preserve you today, no matter what you are facing!

Psalms 2 is amazing and majestic as you would expect. But, what you might not expect from a Psalms is also true… It is prophetic! Often referred to as a royal Psalms, it may have been used to help coronate a new king or may have been written after Nathan affirmed God’s covenant with David. But ultimately Psalms 2 points to Jesus in powerful ways that made it one of the most quoted Psalms in the New Testament. Today, for our purpose, it reminds us that no matter what turmoil rages in our world, God is in control. He has a redemptive plan for the people who will embrace His Son!

The Psalms are a collection of ancient Hebrew songs of praise to God, about half of which were written by David. They offer us an amazingly intimate perspective on who God is and how we engage him in worship. Psalms 1 is a Psalms of David giving instruction concerning good and evil. He is setting before us life and death, the blessing and the curse, that we may take the right way which leads to happiness and avoid that which will certainly end in our misery and ruin.

Today we wrap up our short journey to refresh our minds around our mission and purpose at Salem. In public relations and advertising there is a commonly used word: messaging. It guides your efforts and focus … So, staying “on message” is critical! But it is also hard. For the Jesus follower, that message is always The Gospel ... The life-giving story of Jesus!
