Jesus then revealed to the woman that he knew details about her life that only God could know. This led the woman to ask Jesus who he was, which led Jesus to reveal to her that she was the Messiah.

Pastor Chris then discusses how Jesus taught his disciples that he deeply desired to do his Father's will of calling the lost people of the world back to his Father, where they could find eternal life.

In the end, Pastor Chris calls on all to consider if they want to see Jesus and be freed by him, a choice that all must make.

As these ideas are explored, Pastor Chris explains that human rebellion has led to a world of death and destruction that can only be made overcome by the life offered in Jesus. Jesus, having lived the life that humans can't, stands ready to offer life to those who will follow him. This life comes at a cost--Jesus death--which is what Lent prepares observant for. The hope throughout the season of Lent is that humans reflect upon the ways that they personally have participated in the sin and death of the world.

All of these ideas are explored by looking first at the purpose humans were created to fulfill. Second, by looking at how human rebellion has undermined this purpose, and three by looking at how Jesus' temptation in the wilderness was the moment when Jesus remained faithful to God unlike any human before him.

In this sermon for the last Sunday after the Epiphany, Pastor Chris unpacks Jesus' transfiguration. He does this by connecting the story of the transfiguration to it's roots in the Hebrew scriptures. He does this by connecting the story of the transfiguration to the story of Moses, and shows that Jesus' mountain top moment is even greater than Moses' mountain top moment. All of this points to one idea: that Jesus reveals God's glory.

This realization, that the transfiguration is the moment when Jesus reveals God's glory, ought to challenge every person to consider his story and how it impacts their life.

First he establishes that we must base our ideas about being a good person--our ideas about morality--in God. God made us, he knows what brings life. Therefore, we must took to him if we are to be a good person. Second, establishes that we don't try to become good people on our own. Instead, it is the Holy Spirit living in us that empowers us to be good people. Finally, from the teachings of Jesus, Pastor Chris shows that being a good person come down to whats inside of us rather than our actions. To be good people we must have a good heart.

In this sermon for the Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany Pastor Chris explores the idea of a having a religious faith versus having a relational faith. The conclusion that is drawn from the teachings of Jesus in Matthew chapter 5 verses 13-20 is that our faith needs to be both religious and relational. Our religious worship grounds our relational life and our relational life gives meaning to our religious life.

In this sermon for the Fourth Sunday after the Epiphany, Pastor Chris describes Jesus' take on the good life that leads to living your best life. He does so by walking us through the the beatitudes, or the Matthew chapter 5 verses 1-12.

In this sermon Pastor Chris first wonders how we should define the good life. He shows that the good life is viewed as a subjective idea in twenty-first century, western culture. He then questions this conclusions and offers what the biblical view of the good life based on God's created intent for humans: humans were made in God's image to reflect him in the world and partner with him in ruling creation. This good life has been corrupted, but those who live by in find themselves again in God's presence.

Pastor Chris this explains that Jesus calls all of his followers to come into his kingdom, where the call is to put others first. This, Jesus says is the good life: to serve others. Doing so leads to our best life. Pastor Chris this concludes by calling all to serve others and find their way to the good life.

One of the less spoken of roles of Jesus in the gospels was prophet. Though this part of his ministry often gets shoved to the side, it's placed front and center in the gospels.

In this sermon, Pastor Chris unpacks Jesus' prophetic word to the people of the first century and the people of today. What is this prophetic word? A call to repent, for the kingdom of God is coming.

The more we look at this prophetic word, the more that we see that Jesus is calling on the people of the world to repent from their rebellion and follow him. Jesus calls on people because he wants to shine his light into their darkness and remake them into the people they were created to be.

Jesus' prophetic word is hopeful for more than just the individual. Rather than just being an individual thing, it's good news for the whole world. Because the coming kingdom means that God's rule, reign, and power is coming to the earth to through off the chains of sin, evil, and injustice so that the world might be remade into a place of harmony, hope, and peace.

In this sermon Pastor Chris explains that Jesus came to save. He does this by exploring the claims of John the Baptism made about Jesus in the first chapter of John's Gospel. In this chapter, John the Baptist claims that Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. he also claims that Jesus is God's chosen one. This leads several of John's disciples to check Jesus out, and when they do one comes to the conclusion that Jesus is the Messiah.

Pastor Chris explains that all of this helps us understand Jesus' identity and mission. As God's chosen one, Jesus is the Messiah, the anointed one of God, who has come to save the world. As the lamb of God, Jesus is the new Passover Lamb who has been led to the slaughter that all peoples of the world might be saved.

In this video Pastor Chris offers a sermon on Jesus' baptism where he discusses that Jesus' baptism confirms his identity and mission. Jesus' identity is affirmed at his baptism when God's Holy Spirit descends upon him after he comes out of the water and God speaks audibly about Jesus' being his Son whom he lives.

This public affirmation of Jesus is connected to the passages of Isaiah called the servants songs, which speak of God's anointed servant who would come to save his people.

With Jesus' baptism, we see a public display of his anointing and commission to be God's anointed servant--or messiah--who comes to rescue the world.
