Ash Wednesday kicks off the season of Lent, the 40 days (not including Sundays) leading up to Easter. We observe Lent as a kind of spiritual "spring cleaning." We come to terms with our mortality and lean into the depth of God's love - in embracing death, we embrace life.

We all long to belong...and yet hold the tension of not wanting to dis-belong from one group when joining a new one. Gila Fein's life has embodied this, as her wrestling with God and faith have pulled her through Methodism, Mormonism, Judaism - and now finding a home at Salt House. This Sunday she shares her story with us, embodying two of our core practices: that of sharing our stories, as well as our practice of radical inclusivity.

Is God still speaking? Oh, yes. A core practice at Salt House is listening. To each other. To the words we're reading and hearing. To music and poetry. To the movement of our culture and creation and world. And in all of it: listening for God.

The Feeding of the 5000 is the one miracle that is named in all four of the gospels. Why is that? Why this miracle? And as we gather for worship and a community meal, we'll transition from last year into this year! We have so much to be grateful for, and so much to look forward to! Let's reflect on that and gear up for what God has in store for us, together.

As we light the final Advent candle, the candle of LOVE, we continue our practice of presence in this busy, holy season through the communal practice of Lectio Divina. Come and be reoriented and refueled for all the festivities that are to come!

Why is joy so fleeting? Why do our minds get stuck replaying the same mistakes and disappointments over and over again? As we light the third Advent candle of JOY, we'll explore why joy can be so elusive, and discover tools to become more present to it this Christmas.
