  • Speaking on Business: The Boob Bus
This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. Serving thousands of women across Northern and Central Utah, The Boob Bus travels the state to help women prioritize their health with breast cancer screenings. Co-Founder and CEO Rena Vanzo, joins us with more.
    Rena Vanzo:
One in every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Think about that! Every school, church group and book club will be impacted. And breast cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death among women in the US.
Mammograms, or 15-minute X-rays, are the best way to catch it early, when most treatable. Utah ranks among the lowest states in our nation for women completing mammograms. We’re busy working, attending or running PTA meetings and generally putting our health last.
Our mission on The Boob Bus is to ensure every eligible woman has her yearly mammogram. We’ve been operating for two years, and have served over 3,000 women across the state, including rural areas.
We welcome HR departments, community groups and clinics to book us for their next event. We accept a wide array of insurance plans, and women love our personalized approach and warm robes! Learn more at theboobbus.com.
    Derek Miller:
By prioritizing women’s health, The Boob Bus helps Utah women stay strong and healthy, supporting them in daily life, at home and in the workplace. Businesses can get involved by checking out their website online. I'm Derek Miller, with the Salt Lake Chamber, Speaking on Business.

  • Speaking on Business: Utah Foundation
This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. Founded in 1945, the Utah Foundation is a nonprofit research organization that provides clear, nonpartisan analysis and publishes yearly reports to help Utahns and policymakers better understand the issues shaping our state’s future. President Shawn Teigen, joins us with more.
    Shawn Teigen:
The Utah Foundation’s 2025 signature project was the Social Capital Index. That project culminated in finding that Utah has very high social capital. But what is social capital? It refers to the ways people use networks and social connections to benefit both themselves and their communities.
For example, maintaining relationships with coworkers as they move into new positions can keep you up-to-date in the industry, maybe place your child in an internship or even give you a leg up in finding a better job yourself.
Maintaining relationships with your business is just as important. If you are Garbett Homes, for instance, your concrete suppliers might be Staker Parson, and your lumber supplier might be SunPro. The strength of these bonds is what social capital is all about.
Finally, at the Utah Foundation, we see the Salt Lake Chamber as part of our social network. We see the Chamber as part of our team, with both of us benefiting from this relationship at the end of the day.
    Derek Miller:
The Social Capital Index highlights how strong relationships drive opportunity and economic growth across Utah. Understanding these connections helps communities thrive. Explore the findings at UtahFoundation.org. I'm Derek Miller, with the Salt Lake Chamber, Speaking on Business.

  • Speaking on Business: my529
This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. For three decades, my529 has helped families save for future education costs. Since 1996, Utah’s official 529 plan has supported students and families along the way. Marketing Specialist, Jenny Sass, joins us with more about their newest program.
    Jenny Sass:
This year my529, Utah’s official 529 plan, celebrates 30 years of helping families save for the cost of higher education. I’d like to introduce incentiFive, a program by my529, designed specifically for new Utah parents to help develop a college savings habit.
Here’s how incentiFive works: The family contributes at least 100 dollars every year for the first five years to their child’s my529 account. In return, my529 will contribute 100 dollars annually for the first four years and 529 dollars in the fifth year.
Participating in the incentiFive program could result in a total incentive contribution of 929 dollars from my529. It’s simple, it’s effective, and it’s exclusively for Utah families. Visit my529.org for incentiFive sign up information.
Remember, with my529, you’re not just saving money; you’re investing in a brighter future.

  • Speaking on Business: Proximity
This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. Founded in 2022, Proximity creates easy-to-use technology that helps candidates, elected officials and organizations connect with people, organize their work and strengthen civic engagement. Founder and CEO Becki Wright, joins us with more.
    Becki Wright:
Campaigns run on relationships. But most teams run their relationships across five
tools, ten spreadsheets, and a hundred text threads. With contacts in one place, outreach in another, and events somewhere else, it’s like hunting for that one charging cord you need in a drawer full of tangled cables from phones you don’t even own anymore. Proximity brings it closer together.
We’re software powering democracy — a modern platform that helps campaigns and community leaders organize contacts, run outreach, manage fundraising and keep supporters engaged from start to finish.
With built-in automation and AI support, Proximity helps teams stay on top of priorities, spot what needs attention and make smarter decisions faster without losing the personal touch. The result is simple: less time managing tools, and more time building trust. Whether you’re asking for votes, gathering signatures, inviting volunteers or just engaging with your community, Proximity turns connection into action.
Because democracy works best when your tools work best.
    Derek Miller:
By helping Utah leaders run more efficient campaigns and outreach, Proximity supports transparency, saves time and strengthens the civic infrastructure behind our growing economy and future growth. Visit ProximityImpact.com. I'm Derek Miller, with the Salt Lake Chamber, Speaking on Business.

  • Speaking on Business: Women's Business Center of Utah
This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. The Women’s Business Center of Utah supports women entrepreneurs through training, advising, and access to critical resources. State Director, Ann Marie Wallace joins us to discuss the Utah Proclamation for Women’s Entrepreneurial Empowerment and its impact on women-owned businesses statewide.
    Ann Marie Wallace:
On Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, Utah leaders from government, business and nonprofit sectors came together to sign the Utah Proclamation for Women’s Entrepreneurial Empowerment.
Thirty organizations joined the ceremonial signing, committing to support women-owned businesses across the state.
The Proclamation recognizes the vital role women entrepreneurs play in Utah’s economy. Women-owned businesses generate roughly 14 billion dollars annually and employ over 89,000 Utahns.
It also acknowledges the challenges women business owners often face, including access to capital, networks and growth opportunities.
Signatories pledge to take meaningful action, such as mentoring women entrepreneurs, promoting policy improvements or showcasing women-led businesses. One simple, yet powerful way we can all contribute is by intentionally buying from women-owned businesses. Individuals and organizations can still add their signatures through November 19, 2026.
Supporting women entrepreneurs strengthens Utah’s economy and builds a more balanced and innovative business community.
    Derek Miller:
The Women’s Business Center of Utah continues empowering women business owners while bringing the community together to support their mission.

  • Speaking on Business: Trauma-Informed Utah
This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. Founded in 2016, Trauma‑Informed Utah empowers organizations across the state to understand and respond to trauma, offering education, training, and resources to build resilience in communities and workplaces. Executive Director, Keri Jones-Fonnesbeck, joins us with more.
    Keri Jones-Fonnesbeck:
Our families and communities depend on people who show up — teachers, first responders, healthcare workers, and small business owners.
Yet, stress and adversity are hurting Utahns, impacting how we think, respond, and connect. Trauma-Informed Utah exists to guide organizations in strengthening them from the inside out, from schools and healthcare providers to justice systems — Trauma-Informed Utah is shaping a future where every Utahn is met with understanding rather than judgment.
With evidence-based tools, we offer training, consulting, and planning around implementing practical, trauma-informed principles and solutions. The importance of this work cannot be overstated. Research indicates people are experiencing unprecedented levels of stress and disconnection.
We need organizations not to add to that stress and adversity but instead work side-by-side to grow resilience in the people they employ and serve. Trauma-Informed Utah is building healthy systems by building healthy people.
    Derek Miller:
Trauma‑Informed Utah is transforming communities statewide, helping organizations foster resilience and healing. Learn more about their impactful work and access resources at traumainformedutah.org. I'm Derek Miller, with the Salt Lake Chamber, Speaking on Business.
