Matt Thomas of Firm Foundations joins us to share his story from addition and violence to life and freedom in Christ! He wrote a book about his story called The Overlooked and is available on Amazon.com. His bio from FirmFoundationsMinistries.org: If a person could be described in one word, Matt’s word would be PASSION. Matt’s life path has been both winding and bumpy – born in Oregon, sent to boarding school in Washington, joined the Navy in California, attended college in Indiana, and went to prison in Arizona – but has been on fire for God’s kingdom since coming to Kansas in 2011. He has battled the demons of addiction and abuse, and knows the hurt and devastation this kind of sin can cause. Matt Works at Brothers In Blue Reentry in Lansing Correctional Facility and his true passion is evangelizing and spreading the good news about Jesus Christ – specifically to people that society tends to neglect. He stubbornly counts himself a Raiders fan, and is a huge fan of good barbecue. As the Executive Director of Firm Foundations, Matt provides the vision and direction for the organization, creates ministry partnerships, conducts interviews, preaches and leads Bible studies, and oversees the mentoring process. He is the passion and driving force of our program, as he has responded to God’s clear direction for his life.If you feel led to donate to Firm Foundations, click the donate button on the bottom of their website: https://firmfoundationsministries.org/index.html Get bonus content on PatreonSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/salty-dogs-christian-podcast. In this episode, we link up with Kyle Walker and Joe Klassen in Kansas City! It was a long awaited episode as we knew we'd have a ton of fun and hit on some hard subjects. Kyle Walker's "Walking With God: With Kyle Walker" podcast was birthed out of divorce and has gone on to help many many people who are going through divorce or have been divorced in the past. We hear his story and talk about the restorative and grace-filled nature of God. Enjoy! In this episode, Jason and Chris interview Author, Blogger and Podcaster Keith Giles about his book Jesus Unbound: Liberating The Word Of God From The Bible. We explore the idea that the Word of God and our ultimate authority is Jesus alone and that the scriptures are always meant to point us to Him. Prepare to have some of your beliefs challenged! We're not saying you have to agree with everything that is discussed, but you'll certainly have to keep an open mind and test all of this for yourself.*Side note. We've recently been interviewing people with varying beliefs that challenge our traditionally held beliefs. We at the SDP find it interesting, challenging and necessary to hear from different sides of the fence on varying issues. We won't always totally line up, and sometimes we may flat out disagree but our podcast is a a platform for these beliefs to be voiced and considered. After all, those in Christ are still our brothers and sisters. Thanks for listening!Find out more about Keith Giles at KeithGiles.com or subscribe to the Heretic Happy Hour Podcast. Chris, Jason and Derek talk about experiencing God. Is reading and knowing scripture enough, or is there actually more to this relationship with Christ? Can we have experiential knowledge versus simply informational knowledge? The bible uses two different words for "know", and by this simple word study, we say yes! Watch the Facebook Live recording replay: http://bit.ly/sdp-s3e11-FBliveThank you for your continued support of the Salty Dogs Podcast! We all have our own convictions that lead us to take a stand for what we believe. But what's our motivation behind "calling someone out", or engaging in conversations with varying viewpoints on what we consider "truth"? How do stay in peaceful relationship with those who believe differently than we do? How do we address others in sin? How do we remain in love as we do all of this? These are the things we discuss in this episode with Casey, Chris and Jason. You know how it goes... we end up looking at Jesus.Watch the LIVE replay: http://bit.ly/sdp-s3-e10-liveAndy Stanley & JD Greer Email Exchange:https://outreachmagazine.com/author/andystanley-jdgreearThank you for your continued support of the Salty Dogs Podcast! In our first non-bonus episode with a call-in guest, we spend time with Cody from Houston (via Skype) talking about his journey of faith and what some would believe to be controversial beliefs that Cody holds. Cody grew up in an abusive church situation which led him to pursue Jesus and truth on his own. Ultimately, he ends up being all about Jesus! We spend some time with Pastor Jerrod Rogers from The Movement Church here in Wichita, Kansas. Jerrod had a clear word from the Lord to "stop beating the sheep" and it changed the trajectory of his life and ministry. You know how we roll, the jokes aren't lacking in this one, nor is the real talk. It ALWAYS helps to process what you're feeling and thinking. Chris takes advantage of a hyped up caffeinated state to dive into some thoughts about recent mixed feedback and pushback on our recent episode "We're Salty, Bro." He's rolling solo in this one, in a vulnerable way. Thank you for your continued support of the Salty Dogs Podcast! Check out the links below to find out how to financially support our efforts.
