Gabby Marais has represented South Africa on the track, but the story she tells here starts long before any finish line. In our first guest episode of season two, right in the middle of Women's Month, we sit down with her to talk about the discipline nobody claps for.
The 5am starts. The hill sessions she ran alone on Saturdays. The races she kept coming fourth in before the times finally dropped. Gabby walks us through what it actually took, and how the same discipline that shows up in her training shows up in her faith. As she puts it, you have to discipline yourself to win the race, and even more so in what you believe.
We talk about running for an audience of one, holding your identity separate from your results, and what it looks like to keep showing up when the work is unseen and the outcome isn't promised.
