Salvation doesn't come without repentance. Repentance is more than an apology, it is a change of heart, mind, and action. All of which should lead to ultimately a change of life. If repenting doesn't cause you to change your life in the opposite direction that you were going then you have yet to enter into salvation. Repentance should lead to a conversion. We see this in Acts 3:19. Being converted into the image and likeness of Christ is what will keep us from needing repentance constantly. Becoming like Jesus, living the new creation life, is how we live a sin free life. Finally, after being converted our sins will be blotted out. So only after you've repented and began the process of becoming like Jesus can your sins be wiped clean. Only after these steps can your sins not be counted against you and you receive a clean slate.
