The process of weaning helps us to become mature. If you refuse to be weaned it is a sign that you're still in babyhood. Baby Christians are not useful to God or His work. Being weaned from the old life into the new life showcases to God that you're becoming Christlike. Because the new creation life is not familiar to us coming into Christ, we must learn Christ (the unfamiliar) through the process of weaning. Weaning is about converting your life into Christ's standard way of living. Without conversion from the old into the new you can't expect Christ to come out of your life habitually. Christ life can't come forth if you haven't yet been weaned.

The process of weaning comes with forsaking all. If you are not willing to forsake all so that Jesus can become your only source you can't become like Christ. Our first encounter with weaning comes when we pursue God. You cannot come after Jesus if you aren't willing to leave behind your old life so you can cleave to His. If you haven't been weaned from the old life your Christian life will be a mixture. It is the lukewarm Christian life that we see in the world today. This life seems righteous, but it is totally contrary to God's will. You can't enter the kingdom of God with a mixture life. Are you willing to forsake all in order to follow? Weaned: to be detached from a source of dependence. In the wilderness we will encounter the process of weaning. God uses the wilderness as the perfect place to detach us from every source outside of Himself. Our dependence is defined by how much or little we completely trust in God. The purpose of weaning is to humble you, suffer you to hungry, then feed you. God only feeds His children from His own supply not the supply of the world. If you receive everything from your own sources only, then you might be entering a time of weaning very soon.

The wilderness is a place where God fills us. Sometimes a wilderness comes and we don't even know our own capacity to get through it. Every wilderness comes because of what God has already filled you with to handle it. As we engage and endure, we are able to become the men and women God wants us to be. The wilderness is meant to bring forth more of a hunger for God. If after a dry situation, you're able to go back to lukewarmness or 'sometimey-ness' then you can expect another test to come. God's expectation is that the intimacy that the wilderness created between you and God continue. God wants that closeness to become the new normal in your relationship. Let's allow the difficulties to keep us filled not full.

When our trust is in the Lord even in the wilderness, we will be fruitful. It is in completely relying on God that will allow our leaves to never wither and fear to never reach us. How we trust in God will determine how we successful we are in the wilderness. The desert could be a testing ground for your personal reliance on God. Many believe they trust God for everything until they get into a dry season. We also have to trust that the wilderness will produce usefulness. As you spend time in the desert you must believe that God has a plan to use you. If you fail to see past your situation, you will become a victim of it.

God used the wilderness to bring forth three important characteristics in the heart of the children of Israel. He wanted them to be humble before Him. He would not accept a life that was arrogant or prideful. He wanted a heart that was proven. God tested their hearts so to see if they would really trust Him. He will do the same with us in the wilderness. He lastly wanted them to see & know their own hearts. God wanted them to know the state of their own hearts before Him. If we do not acknowledge the type of heart we have before God, then we will pretend in His presence. These are the characteristics that are solidified in every child of God who successfully encounters the desert. How many have been cemented in you?

Dating back to Genesis we see that God created man from the dust of the ground. This was a wilderness place. Every man that God is going to form must yield to the tool of a wilderness. It was after the man was formed that God saw him fit to be put into the garden. We are not ready for our personal garden until God has used the wilderness to make our lives. It was in Midian, a desert, that God prepared Moses to deliver the children of Israel. God's purpose is halted until we volunteer ourselves to be taken into the wilderness to be made. Avoiding the wilderness could be the reason that the world is still ignorant about who God is. If we are going to be usable vessels we must yield to God's making process and tool: the wilderness.

One of the biggest benefits of the wilderness is that God wants to transform it into a fruitful field. Wells are only built in dry places. An oasis is not valuable in the crowded city. It takes an impossible situation that allows God to begin to work for us. When it is covered with grace God effortlessly turns something dry into something productive for the kingdom. No desert is too dry for God to make into an oasis. How we focus and trust in God will determine if every challenge is turned into disaster or an asset to the plan of God in our lives. What will be your response? Will you allow God to take your current situation and turn it around for His glory? Thank you for joining us for this episode. Are there benefits to being in a dry place? If Jesus went through the wilderness and overcame then so must we. How can something good possibly come out of a desert? God uses wilderness type experiences to make us. If we are going to become God's heirs, then we must actively enlist ourselves to the tests of the enemy. When we do this the characteristics of Christ can come forth. As we follow Jesus, our pattern, into our own deserts it will also make us more faithful. Those who come out of the desert successfully are those who are loyal to God. If you know who you are in God, then no enemy can talk you out of being loyal to God.

Can a dry place be beneficial? We see that after Jesus came out of the wilderness He was able to accomplish His purpose. He healed, casted out devils, and produced fishers of men. Jesus fulfilled every aspect of God's will. We also see that after the wilderness Jesus received power. Without power Jesus wouldn't have been able to complete God's plan. Jesus knew that being God's Son wasn't enough to empower Him on His journey. Every desert experience should empower us to complete a certain aspect of God's will. God may have brought you into a wilderness or dry place because He wants you to be completed. It is only after we've been through the wilderness that God can give us what we need to succeed. What has the wilderness allowed you to accomplish?
