As life progresses for us, different voices appear in our lives. First, family members speak into us; then teachers, friends, and church leaders enter in. There’s a difference between generosity and giving. Giving is a manifestation of a generous heart. Where does generosity start? It starts above you, and where you’ve been. Gratitude towards God, and healthy perspective of where you’ve come from, is paramount to developing a heart of gratitude.

I have concluded after years and years of working with high-end leaders is that the greatest enemy of leadership is insecurity. Insecurity makes you do dysfunctional things. Everybody wants a promotion. I want a promotion, you want a promotion, we want to go to the next level, however you want to phrase that, but we all want a promotion. All promotion is based on your character. Character is, “Can I trust you?” That is what character asks. Everything is about trust. So trust has two components, competence and credibility. Let me elaborate on those to make it clear.

Most of us view disappointments in a negative light. We try to shift blame, absolve ourselves of responsibility, and fret about what went wrong.
