Police Media Spokesman and Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Ajith Rohana said that the public should not make unnecessary trips between the provinces as all the main and intersections between the provinces have been blocked and traffic has been severely restricted.

He was speaking at a press conference at the police headquarters yesterday. He added,

Interstate traffic restrictions have been re-enforced to control the spread of the Covit-19 epidemic.

The operation is being carried out jointly by the police and the army.

Traffic restrictions have been tightened so that the public does not have to make any unnecessary trips between the provinces.

All major and crossroads entering the provinces will be closed and traffic will be allowed only for essential needs.

Anyone traveling in the provinces in violation of the Separation Act will be arrested.

He also said that the vehicles in which they were traveling would be taken under the control of the police.

Iluppaikkadavu police on Thursday (12) morning recovered a sea turtle weighing more than 50 kg which was hidden alive in a house in the third Pitti village in the Manthai West Divisional Secretariat Division.

-The sea turtle has been rescued alive by the police who rushed to the spot based on the confidential information available to the Iluppaikkadavu police.

Police have arrested a person on the charge of possessing a sea turtle. The arrested suspect was a 42-year-old man from the Third Pitty area, police said.

The rescued turtle has been brought to the Iluppaikkadavu police station and steps have been taken to hand over the turtle to the Wildlife Department.

It is noteworthy that the Iluppaikkadavu police are conducting further investigations into the arrested person.

Tamil Nadu fishermen have accused the Sri Lankan navy of throwing stones at them. The Rameswaram fishermen also said that the Sri Lankan navy chased them away after cutting and damaging the fishing nets.
