Dr. Chandimajeewandara, who posted a draft of the statistics on the Delta outbreak in July on his Twitter account, said that the Delta Covid strain is currently spreading in the city of Colombo in a shocking manner.
In the first week of July, an alpha strain was detected in the samples of more than 75 percent of the Covid infections identified in Colombo, and a delta strain was detected in 19.3 percent.
However, as of July 31, the situation has been reversed on Twitter.
According to the Director of the Institute of Allergy, Resistance Research and Genetic Sciences, Sri Jayewardenepura University, which publishes credible information on the status and spread of covid in the country, a delta strain has been detected in more than 90 percent of confirmed cases of covid in Colombo as of July 31.
