_Prasanna, the head of the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation, said the news that the vaccine imported from India contained AIDS components was untrue.
He added that this was not a vaccine issue.
"The matter has made headlines in a newspaper. When we look at the issues mentioned in this report, we can understand some of the issues. It was suspected that a drug imported into India by a particular Indian company contained such an AIDS component.
The matter was taken up with the Cabinet Special Receipt Committee. We took action only after this group examined it in detail.
The headline was written in connection with the suspected presence of such an AIDS component in a drug imported into India. The vaccine has nothing to do with this.
We are concerned that the responsible newspaper company is publishing such news in an irresponsible manner. We regret that the interest and credibility of the general public in getting the vaccine is being undermined, said Prasanna, a specialist medical expert and head of the State Pharmaceutical Corporation.
