Although it seemed appropriate from the beginning, I wrote this homily intentionally omitting references to President Biden--we've had our fair share of intense politics. But then I came across the news of what he did on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade and his first day in office. Even if codifying Roe v. Wade is something he was planning to do, there was no need to highlight this on the day we mourn for the 65 million aborted babies in the last 48 years. This was an affront of the middle-finger type to Catholics in good standing with the Church. Because of his high office and his promotion of his Catholicism, this poses a grave danger to Catholics in general, and children in particular. If procuring an abortion results in an automatic excommunication, can supporting abortion really be moral and not affect one's standing with the Church?
I approached this issue not in terms of policy, but in terms of the consistency and coherency of such a faith with Christ's words in the Gospel, and leave it to you to honestly determine whether the proposed logic rooted in history is flawed or compels affirmation...
