God's Call and Promises

Genesis 11:27 begins the family history of Terah and serves as the vital bridge to the story of Abraham (Abram). It introduces Terah’s sons, notes a family tragedy, and sets the stage for God's call to Abram to move toward the Promised Land.

In Genesis 12:3, God is talking to Abram (who is later named Abraham). God is making a personal covenant promise to Abram, telling him, "I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.

Matthew 5:2 ("And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:") marks the formal beginning of the Sermon on the Mount

Psalm 23 is powerful because it translates the vast, abstract concept of God into an intensely personal, protective presence. By framing God as a devoted shepherd and the individual as a cherished sheep, it offers a direct promise of daily provision, fearless movement through crisis, and unconditional comfort.
