Peter Simpson has been Chief Executive Officer of Anglian Water Group since October 2013, and was previously Managing Director of Anglian Water from January 2010 and Chief Operating Officer from 2004.

Peter is a founding member, and now co-chair, of the Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group in the UK, run by the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, which provides a strong voice to support UK leadership nationally and internationally on the transition to a climate neutral, resource efficient, socially inclusive economy by 2050.

Peter also works with Business in the Community (BITC) as Chair of the Climate Adaptation Taskforce and Chair of the East of England Leadership Team, and sits on the Board of Trustees of WaterAid. Peter is a Chartered Water and Environmental Manager, a Chartered Scientist and a Chartered Environmentalist. In 2016, he was made an Honorary Fellow of both the Society of the Environment and the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management. He holds an MBA from Warwick Business School.

Peter was Chairman of Water UK from April 2012 to October 2013, and is a Past President of the Institute of Water.

In this episode, SAP UKI Managing Director Michiel Verhoeven speaks to Mark Dearnley, Chief Digital Officer at Inchcape, to discuss their ongoing business transformation and move to RISE with SAP.

Mark Dearnley joined Inchcape as CIO in October 2020. Formerly, Mark was Partner at the global management consulting firm, Bain & Company where he advised clients on technology strategy, digital transformation and enterprise information technology.

Prior to his role at Bain, Mark was CIO with Premium Credit and Chief Digital & Information Officer with HMRC. He has also held CIO positions in Vodafone UK and Cable & Wireless. He has considerable experience in cyber-security, customer-facing digital solutions as well as delivering complex technology change across international operations.

Yes, I’ve used an Albert Einstein quote as the title for this episode, but how could I not!? I also quote Einstein in my summary at the end of the episode, not quite sure what came over me.. but again how could I not use this?! - “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result”. In other words, get our your comfort zones, give it a whirl, if you fail, try again.

Emmie Faust appeared on series 5 of BBC’s Dragons’ Den where she and her business partner secured a £200,000 record investment from Theo Paphitis. The business ending up failing which led Emmie to feel embarrassed for some time. This public eye failure wasn’t easy, however the learnings from it have been invaluable to Emmie and her success today. Since then Emmie has set up, scaled and sold many successful businesses and is almost certain the not so easy public failure was a key ingredient to her success today.

Peter joined Pets at Home in 2011 as Commercial Director and moved to the role of Chief Executive Officer of Retail in 2015. Peter was appointed Group Chief Executive Officer in April 2018.

Peter has worked in retail for 30 years in various senior operational and commercial roles at Asda, Sainsbury’s, Iceland, Marks and Spencer and Wilkinson Hardware Stores. Peter has a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Stirling University.
