12 Then He said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the ……….do in the dark,
every man in the chambers of his images? For they say, ‘The LORD does not see us.
The LORD has forsaken the land.’ ” 13He also said to me, “Yet again you shall see
greater abominations that they do.”
14 Then He brought me to the door of the gate of the house of the LORD which was
toward the north. And women sat there weeping for Tammuz. 15 Then He said to
me, “Have you seen this, O son of man? Yet again you shall see greater
abominations than these.”
16He brought me into the inner court of the house of the LORD, and at the door of
the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty-five
men with their backs toward the temple of the LORD and their faces toward the
east. And they worshipped the sun toward the east.
17 Then He said to me, “Have you seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the
house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? For
they have filled the land with violence and have continually provoked Me to anger.
And they put the branch to their nose. 18 Therefore I will indeed deal in fury. My
eye shall not spare, nor will I have pity. And though they cry in My ears with a
loud voice, yet I will not listen to them.” Ez 8
There must not be found among you anyone who makes his
son or his daughter pass through the fire, or who uses
divination, or uses witchcraft, or an interpreter of omens, or a
sorcerer, Deuteronomy 18:10

The pictures of that first satanic memory haunted me day and night. I couldn’t get
them out of my head. When I met Joanna again she suggested I get them on paper
by drawing them. With all of the talent of a four year old, I drew the images looping
through my brain until they stopped. There was no way to capture the fear with
crayons. There was no way to make sense of the black hooded figures, the blood,
or the rape. But I was finally able to put the images down and let them go

Memories of being taken to strange places for rituals complicated my
understanding of the various affiliations and organizations with which my family
was connected. How could so many people be involved and yet it seems no one
knows? My mother took me to a Catholic monastery where nuns walked the halls
in black gowns and white head coverings. I could hear her high heels on the cold
stone floors. She gripped my hand firmly while we walked through the building. The
ritual took place in a large underground room with no light. Candles lit the
pentagram on the floor. The faces of other frightened children spooked me. This
was a black mass amid Latin chanting and strange laughter. Blood was spilled
everywhere while children whimpered in terror.
