BYU is still undefeated, but somehow the Cougars managed to turn a dominant performance against Iowa State into one of the sweatiest 24-10 wins imaginable.

The biggest story was BYU’s defense. The Cougars completely suffocated Iowa State, getting consistent pressure , dominated up front and made it almost impossible for the Cyclones to establish either the run or the pass. It looked like a championship level defense.

Then there was Bear Bachmeier.

With LJ Martin still out and BYU struggling to generate a consistent traditional running game, Bachmeier once again became the answer. He threw for 329 yards and two touchdowns, added 109 yards on the ground and repeatedly made plays when BYU needed them.

But this game could have been much more comfortable. Failed fourth-down attempts, red-zone struggles and costly special-teams mistakes repeatedly allowed Iowa State to hang around.

Now everything points toward Notre Dame.

BYU has the defense. It has an incredible home-field advantage. And it has Bear Bachmeier.

But without Martin, the Cougars may need Bachmeier to deliver his best performance yet.

Can BYU clean up the mistakes and take down Notre Dame?

Minnesota brought the Little Brown Jug home and did it exactly the way you’d expect a P.J. Fleck team to do it.

The Gophers controlled possession, played suffocating defense and turned the second half into a clinic in Minnesota football. Michigan managed just 77 yards after halftime, while Minnesota capitalized on turnovers and controlled the football for nearly 37 minutes. At one point, Michigan possessed the ball for only 41 seconds in the entire third quarter.

Four weeks ago, the Cleveland Browns looked like a disaster. After an ugly Week 1 loss, we thought starting Deshaun Watson was a mistake and that Cleveland’s season could unravel quickly.

Three straight wins later, it’s time to admit it: we were wrong.

Watson’s mobility is returning, he’s extending plays again, his completion percentage has improved, and we’re finally seeing flashes of the quarterback Cleveland thought it was getting.

Nobody expected Cleveland to be here after Week 1.

But suddenly, the Browns are must-watch football again.

Missouri didn’t just beat Florida, the Tigers completely took control of this game, and Austin Simmons was the biggest reason why.

Florida entered the game with a rushing attack that had looked nearly unstoppable against Ole Miss. Missouri shut it down, holding Jadan Baugh to just one yard on his final 11 carries after a 12 yard opening run. That forced the game into the hands of the quarterbacks, and that’s exactly where Missouri had the advantage. 

Simmons looked every bit like an NFL caliber quarterback. He consistently made high level throws, attacked Florida’s secondary and showed why he may have been one of the biggest steals of the transfer portal. Missouri’s receivers also delivered, while the Tigers’ defense controlled Florida at the line of scrimmage.

We break down how Missouri dismantled a Florida team that looked completely different one week earlier, why Jamal Roberts’ huge fourth-quarter numbers don’t tell the entire story of the game, and what Simmons could mean for Missouri moving forward. 

The Tigers still have a difficult SEC schedule ahead.

But with Austin Simmons playing quarterback, Missouri is going to have a chance against just about anybody.

Sometimes good teams have to find a way to win when almost nothing is working.

BYU’s trip to TCU was exactly that kind of game. Wet conditions made throwing and catching difficult, the Cougars were dealing with injuries throughout the roster, LJ Martin went down, and an already depleted offensive line struggled with penalties. BYU finished with just 62 passing yards, but still found a way to leave with a win.

The biggest reason was Bear Bachmeier.

When BYU’s normal offense wasn’t working, the Cougars eventually put the game on their quarterback’s shoulders. Bachmeier’s physical running became the difference, picking up critical first downs and ultimately delivering the late touchdown BYU needed. He accounted for almost 130 of BYU’s 216 total yards despite everything working against the offense.

We also break down another outstanding performance from BYU’s defense, which held TCU to 259 total yards and just 10 points while producing eight tackles for loss, four sacks and the game’s critical turnover.

It wasn’t pretty. It certainly wasn’t BYU’s best performance.

But winning ugly is still winning, and when BYU needed someone to take over, Bear Bachmeier delivered.

Northwestern didn’t just beat Penn State, the Wildcats completely dominated the Nittany Lions from start to finish.

In this episode, we break down a dominant Northwestern performance that featured an incredible 413 rushing yards, led by Caleb Komolafe and Hyman. Komolafe piled up 188 yards while Hyman added 162, as Northwestern’s offensive line consistently created enormous running lanes and controlled the line of scrimmage

But the bigger story may be what this performance tells us about Northwestern.

Against Indiana, the Wildcats couldn’t establish their running game, so Aidan Chiles threw for 290 yards and kept Northwestern competitive against one of the country’s best teams. Against Penn State, the opposite happened. The running game was unstoppable, so Northwestern simply kept feeding it.

That’s the sign of an adaptable and increasingly complete football team.
