Many of us have experienced difficult relationships in our lives. They have the power to serious damage our mental health - effecting our decisions, corroding our outlook, causing unwarranted stress and spiking our emotions.

It can be psychically draining and emotionally exhausting; anxiety, anger, depression, low self esteem, embarrassment, the list goes on.

On this weeks podcast, I offer advice & support on how to protect yourself, cope and navigate these poisonous relationships, talking about topics including:

I share my thoughts and offer advice around the concept of New Years resolutions.

 

Many of us are familiar with the pattern - over indulge at Christmas, set grand goals for the new year, fall short of those goals and feel upset. Don’t worry we’ve all been there.

 

In this loose and meandering episode, recorded on a walk in the woods, I offer my thoughts on the problematic nature of New Years resolutions and offer advice on how to best navigate this time of year.

From womanising & killing without remorse, to impulsivity & manipulation - James Bond displays a frightening number of psychopathic traits, as laid out on the psychopath checklist. In this podcast, I go through three separate Bond films - Octopussy, From Russia With Love & Skyfall - analyse them for psychopathic traits & compare scores at the end.

 

This episode is filled with plenty of humour, as well as a stark examining and redefining of the UK’s most famous fictional character. From sexual assault to defusing a bomb dressed as a clown, this episode is very silly, serious & saucy (problematically saucy…)

 

Is Bond a genuine psychopath? What does this mean in the wider context of society? And what does it say about us?

I address the environment impact of our choices at Christmas, and offer up some advice on how to make your festive period more carbon neutral, examining the key areas including food, decorations and presents. I also talk about the recent news that McDonald’s have created the UK’s 1st net zero restaurant.

 

Climate change - it’s arguably the most pressing issue humanity has ever faced. It’s an ever pervasive threat, caused by our continual interference & rapid destruction of nature. We as individuals who wish to be proactive can often feel overwhelmed and defeatist in the face of corporate, governmental & systemic abuse of our planet. 

 

And yet, in terms of domestic consumption & personal carbon footprints, national holiday celebrations, such as Christmas, produce a spike in harmful emissions to our atmosphere. 

 

It turns out our actions are not aligned with our beliefs. But what can we do!?

 

In this podcast, I address the emission issues caused by our choices, and offer up some advice on how to make your Christmas more carbon neutral, examining key aspects of the festive period including food, decorations and presents. I also address the recent news that McDonald’s have created the UK’s 1st net zero restaurant.

 

Being more aware of our environmental impacts in the build up to December merrymaking doesn’t have to mean sacrifice and solemnity. With a healthy combination of reevaluating and innovative thinking, it can bring greater connection to our loved ones and surroundings during this time of celebration.

Blue Van Man is a YouTuber from Loughborough, reviewing everyday items like beer and food, as well as providing social commentary on the news, football and social issues.

 

We arranged this conversation after BVM heard a podcast I made about his work (Ep. 26 - Deconstructing Blue Van Man) comparing his YouTube content to early 20th century transgressive art.

 

He reached out to me after enjoying my take on his work and wanted to come on for a chat. And I'm really pleased he did. Dave is a humorous, kind hearted and inviting man and every moment spent in his company was pure joy. I had a tremendous amount of fun and I think you will too.
