Highly Recommended
This is based on true events, and tells the story of a young German man's involvement as a drafted soldier at the end of WWII. The story reveals details about a piece of history that I have never read about before. I could not put the book down, and will not forget the main character and his harrowing experiences. The author makes the action flow naturally, and draws the reader in with a well-developed progression of events. I could easily picture this as a movie. I recommend this book to those interested in WWII history, and to any reader who enjoys a great story.
A different but crucial perspective
I really enjoyed this book as there are many on the Holocaust but few from a German's point of view. So often we read how brutal the Germans were that we forget there were some who were opposed to the war. While the story had its share of sorrows, the overall feeling is one of finding goodness even in the most difficult of situations.
The writing itself was compelling and it held my interest. I read it in one sitting. I would greatly encourage the reader to read to the end as it is well worth it. I felt a sense of humility and compassion among the main characters that it was truly a fulfilling read made even better by the fact it is based on a true story. Well done!
A Must Read!
The writer tells the heart breaking story of two young boys taken from their home against their will to fight when they don't want to. This story is a real eye opener for a truth and reality that needs to be told. It certainly enlightened me on what really went on with Hitler's evil ways. Save me twice is a personal account of the catastrophic historic event of the Holocaust that educated me beyond the history books and Holocaust museum.
A Unique and Compelling WWII Story
Won this book in an Amazon Giveaway drawing - and I enjoyed it! What it lacks in literary quality it more than makes up for in authentic storytelling. Save Me Twice presents a unique and compelling story of a young SS conscript in the waning months of WWII, and facing the war's aftermath. It offers a rare insight, seldom captured. Well worth reading.
Amazing and Astounding
I really appreciated reading this book because it showed me the perspective that I never saw before. It was enjoyable to read as story unfolds and suspenseful to keep me interested from the beginning to end. Also, the facts and informations were astounding, never have known them if I didn't read this book.
