For years, I was taught to trust my intuition, follow my heart, honor my feelings, do what feels aligned, and create the reality I wanted. But Christianity has completely challenged the idea that my inner world should be my ultimate authority.

The answer isn't to suppress our emotions—but it also isn't to worship them.

What Does It Mean to Be Saved? | Salvation, Sin, Grace & New Life in Christ

What does it actually mean when Christians say, “Jesus saves”? Saved from what? Why do we need salvation? And what does it actually mean to be saved through Jesus Christ?

These are questions I honestly had before I became a Christian.

I remember hearing Christians say things like “Jesus saves” or “Jesus wants to save you,” and thinking, “But save me from what?” I didn't understand what it meant. There was no context, no framework, and honestly, the phrase felt confusing and even a little off-putting to me.

So in this episode, I want to break down what the Bible actually says about salvation—and keep it as simple and biblical as possible.

We’re going all the way back to the beginning to understand why we need saving in the first place, what sin actually is, what it means to be spiritually dead, why Jesus had to die, and what His death and resurrection accomplished for us.

Romans 5:12 — Sin and death entered the world through Adam.

2 Corinthians 5:21 — Christ took our place so that we might become the righteousness of God.

1 Peter 3:18 — Christ suffered for sins to bring us to God.

Ephesians 2:8–9 — We are saved by grace through faith, not by our own works.

John 1:12 — Those who receive Christ become children of God.

Romans 8:15 — Believers receive the Spirit of adoption.

2 Corinthians 5:17 — In Christ, we become a new creation.

Romans 8:1 — There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 3:1–3 — Those who have been raised with Christ are called to seek the things above.

Philippians 3:20 — Our citizenship is in heaven.

John 3:16 — God gave His Son so that whoever believes in Him may have eternal life.

Salvation isn't about becoming a good enough person, cleaning yourself up, or earning your way to God.

It starts with recognizing that I cannot save myself.

Jesus lived the perfect life I could never live, died for my sins, and rose again. Through faith in Him, I receive forgiveness, reconciliation with God, and new life.

And being saved doesn't mean I become perfect overnight.

It means I now belong to Christ—and the Holy Spirit begins transforming me from the inside out.

I don't clean myself up and then come to Jesus. I come to Jesus, and He begins the work of transforming me.

What does it mean when I feel drawn to Jesus—but something in me resists fully saying yes?

In this episode of Embers of Grace, I’m speaking directly to the person who feels the call of Christ but also carries confusion, hesitation, or resistance—often rooted in church hurt, religious performance, or past spiritual experiences. I share parts of my own story and what I keep hearing in conversations lately: “I feel called to Jesus, but I don’t understand it—and I have resistance. What do I do?”

I open up about my background with Catholicism (and the “performance” feeling I carried), and I speak specifically to the person who didn’t experience intimacy with Jesus through religion—only pressure, shame, or confusion. I also share how, in my own journey, I didn’t understand at first that “God” in New Age spirituality and the one true God of the Bible are not the same.

The Bible speaks of the breath of God giving life to dry bones. In the same way, this episode reflects on how even the smallest embers of grace within us—curiosity, longing, doubt, hunger—can be stirred into living fire when met with truth.
