Can you be saved without works?

A dying criminal had no time left to clean up his life, fix his past, prove his sincerity, or earn his way into heaven. He was nailed to a Roman cross, guilty by his own admission, completely helpless, and standing at the edge of eternity.

And then he looked at Jesus and said, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”

This message looks at Luke 23 and the criminal on the cross — one of the clearest pictures of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Two criminals were beside Jesus. One mocked Him. One trusted Him. Same suffering. Same opportunity. Same Savior. Two completely different responses.

• John 11:25–26 — Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.” This reminds us that death is not the end for the believer. Christ does not just comfort us near the grave. He conquers it.

• 1 Thessalonians 4:13–14 — Scripture says believers do not grieve as those who have no hope. Christians still cry, still mourn, and still feel the weight of loss, but not without the anchor of resurrection.

If you are grieving right now, I pray this message steadies your soul and points you to Christ. And if you are not ready for death, this is your wake-up call. Life is fragile. Eternity is real. Jesus Christ is still the only Savior.

A simple prayer of repentance and faith:

“Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself. I believe You died on the cross for my sins and rose again from the dead. I turn from my sin and place my trust in You alone. Forgive me, change me, and make me Yours. Help me follow You in faith from this day forward. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
