Labor Day Weekend is the unofficial end of summer weekend for most. As families prepare to send their children back to school or they prepare to return back to the education sector themselves. It is a time for one last go at the beach, a seafood boil, cookout, or just a time to unwind and prepare for the turn of a new season. However, nonetheless, you always go out with a bang. Center City Philadelphia is where I closed out my season, with good vibes, good people and good eatin.
Many people spend traditional holidays around immediate family and friends, while others may go off the grid and do things a little bit different. I took some time to get away from that and spend the holiday weekend in a place that has a special place in my heart. A city that basically kept me together during the rough and trying times of the pandemic that took this country by storm. A time where people were let go or lost jobs due to the fact that the pandemic was basically forcing local businesses and big companies to close. People were on the brink of losing what little to nothing they had. And Sacramento welcomed me with open arms. Though was still a tough time, commuting back and forth at least twice a week to maintain my apartment I still had in Fresno, but it truly kept my head above water and kept me sane. I met some cool people along the way that let me know I was welcome back whenever I got ready.
As Memorial Day approaches the question keeps coming up... "Are you doing Chicken n Waffles this year at the parade?" And my answer is _______.
Yes it is a community event that brings the local community together for a somewhat fun filled day, but there is room for growth. But I tell you what there isn't room for, a speed camera/radar that sits in a prime location that raises questions. Such as, why in 2024, are certain people of power, taking from the working class? One last thing, fellas, live the life you intended to live before you met the woman who's currently trying to control it.
Coach MD and Coach AB came down to the 757 to check out the Allen Iverson All-American Game hosted in Hampton, VA. While reminiscing on the impact that "AI" brought to the game of basketball during his era, they also touch on the importance of being a part of the development of young athletes they encounter in their respective professions. Coach MD, a Pop Warner Football Assistant Coach by day and a Head Basketball Coach by night understands the highs and lows that comes with sports but most importantly never losing site the overall goal he wants for his players. Coach AB, a Head JV Basketball Coach, sees the thrill in preparing young players for the upcoming challenges and adversity they may face during their high school careers, while also teaching them what it means to be apart of a well structured program.
"I thought the Rockies would be a lot rockier than this" Denver, CO, also known as "The Mile High City," offers visitors a unique experience. From art, local museums, music, nightlife, food you name it. But let's not forget the BIGGEST one, Cannabis. Once frowned upon by many, it is what some would say is socially acceptable in today's society. This weekend showed me just that. The Mile High Music Festival takes place every year on 4/20 in the civic center park in downtown Denver. With support from not only local coordinators and vendors, people from all over the country come to town to partake in the festivities. With all Denever has to offer, I'd say it sure knows how to share the love amongst them all.
As the game of basketball continues to evolve on the men and women's collegiate level, it has definitely impacted the game as a whole. But there seems to be some disconnect between those on the outside who are still looking for their way into the spotlight. A spotlight that shines so bright, one can become blind and lose sight of the overall mission that comes with uplifting, inspiring, and teaching younger generations to come. Just like a family that has a solid foundation, it all starts with TRADITION.
