This episode is from the Committee on Women in the Legal Profession’s #LawMom initiative. The Committee on Women created the #LawMom series in 2016 as a way to hold discussions around having a legal career and managing parenting responsibilities.

This episode is an exciting mash-up of presenters. We are honored to have stolen some time from our keynote and featured speakers at our 2022 Annual Meeting. Even if you listen to this after the conference, there’s so much to take away from the experience and insight each of these presenters bring.

First in the episode is our keynote speaker, Desmond Meade. Desmond Meade received his JD from Florida International University College of Law. Desmond is currently the President and Executive Director of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition. Desmond shares some thoughts on what the legal community, and truly use as citizens, can do to advocate for formerly incarcerated individuals.

Second in the line-up is Dana Tippin Cutler and Keith Cutler. Keith and Dana are partners in the law firm of James W. Tippin & Associates in Kansas City, Missouri, practicing in the areas of civil defense litigation, education law, and small business representation. Dana and Keith share their perspective and experiences on diversity, equity and inclusion in the law and workplace.

Dr. Tiffany Bowden rounds out the episode. As an entrepreneur, Business Consultant, Coach, and Corporate Diversity Expert, Dr. Tiffany Bowden, MA, Ph.D. has devoted her life’s work to transformation at the level of the individual, interpersonal, and social. Her remarks on the cannabis industry and its impact on people of color are powerful and give us an exciting insight to her presentation.

The Bridge the Gap Program is re-launching and we're excited to provide two episodes for our newest attorneys. In this first episode, State Bar of New Mexico staff demystify what it means being admitted to the Bar. The first year practice can be intimidating between learning the practice of law and all the entails. To our new attorneys and law students, tune in to learn what your licensing expectations are for your first year of practice, what it means to be a member of the State Bar and what the Bridge the Gap Program is.

This episode, we are honored to hear from Chief Judge Jennifer DeLaney from the Sixth Judicial District Court. Larry Heyeck from the Third Judicial District Court interviews the Chief Judge on topics ranging from what it’s like to be in a judicial position in smaller community, some judicial pet peeves and tips, and what court procedure is in the sixth and how it differs from surrounding areas.
