Welcome to another episode of ScaleUp Radio, where we’re going to be hearing a webinar that I delivered recently, all about the challenges of scaling up your business.

 

And the presentation is based on a report from the findings of some research that Bismark UK did that we conducted around businesses within the UK.

 

If you’ve listened to previous episodes of ScaleUp Radio, you will have heard quite a few mentions around the scale up journey and breaking that down into significant milestones.

 

And what we wanted to do was to understand why it is that just 4% of businesses scale beyond ten employees in the UK. And my understanding is that those numbers are repeated across the globe, certainly in the States and across in Canada as well.

 

We want to understand some of the reasons behind that and, more importantly, what is preventing the average business owner from continuing this scale up journey beyond that through to the 20-25 employee levels or 50-plus.

 

And the insights in this report have been developed by asked by BismartUK to help business owners to understand the key challenges in scaling a business, and we set out to identify the barriers to growth at each of the fundamental milestones on that ScaleUp journey, whilst providing insights into the common challenges that owner managers face as they’re managing their businesses, including the role that personality types can play in both driving and also hampering success.

 

So I think there's a huge amount of value within this for all businesses of all different sizes understanding some of those challenges. And we finish up the episode with discussion around the findings of the survey from some breakout rooms that we run at the end of the webinar.
